Cari's First Words Expressive Vocabulary Checklist
Learning to talk is an exciting time in a young child’s life. This form will help parents, therapists, and early intervention providers track the child’s first spoken words.
On this form, words are divided into three categories:
- Power Words (words used to communicate wants and needs)
- Social Words (words used to interact and socialize with others)
- Concept Words (labels for concepts such as letters, numbers shapes and colors)
It is recommended that this form be used to track the child’s first 50 spoken words. At that point, the child should be adding new words to his/her expressive vocabulary at a rate too rapid to track, making this form no longer necessary.
It is important to track not only newly spoken words, but also to check for maintenance of previously spoken words.
This form can be downloaded one time and then used with each child on your caseload.
This form is also included in the "Interactive Handouts for Coaching the Caregiver" download
